After a walk on the beach, a little play time at the SF Maritime National Historic Park and a quick visit to the Maritime museum, we packed up our bags and headed to Sausalito for brunch. Once our tummies were full, we continued our drive to the Muir Woods National Monument. The weather was perfect and demanded us to take advantage of the ecological treasure and spend some time hiking the forest. Muir Woods is full of ancient redwoods (some trees 600 years old) and a range of shade-loving undergrowth, such as redwood sorrel or better known as shamrocks, ferns and gorgeous mosses. It was extraordinarily fun to see all of the redwood sorrel undergrowth so close to St. Patrick's Day. Throughout our entire hike that day, we continued to look for the four-leaf clover - never did find one!
Our hike was so much fun! We started the day with an incline challenge and finished the day by following a clear, refreshing stream into the sunshine!
If you like the outdoors and appreciate forest environments - Muir Woods is a must...a true treasure in our great state!!!
